ABOUT

After attaining my B.Sc. in Neuroscience and Psychology, I had stumbled upon the therapeutic benefits and transformative effects of art while processing health challenges in my own life. I recall that period having felt a great deal of anxiety. Serendipitously I found a watercolor palette and was surprisingly motivated to gain proficiency with this foreign medium. I did not have formal training in arts though had always suspected I had a hidden creative side. In my otherwise demoralized state and feeling like I had nothing to offer the world, I began to see how suffering could be an amazing energy reservoir for creative work. Little did I know this would be the marriage of psychology and art in my life.  My watercolor painting, and videography practice became a powerful yet un-invasive modality for healing. My own experiences with this have led me to a reinvigoration of art and purpose in my life, leading to the pursuit and completion of an MA in Art Therapy. It is my greatest hope that my art practice and work as a therapist can lead to transformation, facilitate change, and healing of others.

My philosophy for painting is process focused rather than the results. I see the paintbrush as a tool for self-expression and the paints as living breathing entities that give the process of art creation life. I think of form, colours, and gestures, as a pathway to communicate from our subconscious what can not be expressed through words. It is in this space that I believe we can begin important, often hard, dialogues with ourselves and others. It is through this space that I believe we can bring about healing.
